GoodSync's premium file sync and backup software is usually compared to file sharing tools like Dropbox, but it's very different. Both programs sync files between devices, but GoodSync also backs up files, and it's secure in ways Dropbox et al can't match. It detects block-level changes and only syncs actual changed data. GoodSync has a one-time purchase price with a 30-day free trial.

Pros

GoodSync Connect: Create secure P2P connections to other PCs with GoodSync Connect. GoodSync Connect Discovery can replace Windows' network discovery services on machines with static IP addresses, too.
Two jobs: GoodSync schedules two Jobs: Synchronize, a two-way action that excludes Hidden and System files; and Backup, a one-way task that includes them.
Security: You may be unaware that Cloud storage isn't secure from snoops and authorities. GoodSync lets you do what tools like Dropbox do, only securely and privately.
Advanced options: GoodSync offers many more options than Dropbox and similar tools, including secure server settings, customizable filters for including and excluding files, and Auto Jobs settings.

Cons

User interface: GoodSync's user interface is businesslike but not terribly intuitive or attractive; though you only need to look at it when making changes, or you can use the desktop MiniMode.
Not free or easy: Unlike the Dropbox version most users install, GoodSync isn't free and requires a lot more setup.

Bottom Line

Despite similarities, GoodSync is on a different level from Dropbox et al. For professionals, businesspeople, and other users who need the same sort of convenience but more features, power, and security, GoodSync stands apart.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of GoodSync 9.9.6.6.
